MATIAS VALENZUELA | ARTIST

I create drawings and paintings that explore diverse patterns and geometric motifs, which are defined by lines, and in turn, by layers that overlap on top of one another. Strongly influenced by minimalism, these figures appear to levitate over the surface by means of shading with pencil or graphite, enhancing the white or tinted bare support. Emptiness plays a crucial role in my work, both visually and symbolically, firmly rooted in the Zen notion of Nothingness. I am interested in inciting a serene state of consciousness, fixating the mind on an empty contemplation that manages to loosen any intellectual barrier, and where silence prevails.
